While a plane coming from India and heading for Nicaragua made a stopover in France, its passengers, suspected of being linked to a human trafficking network, were immobilized. Two men were taken into custody.
A plane grounded and passengers confined in the hall of the Paris-Vatry airport (Marne). For two days, the French authorities have been trying to determine whether the 300 passengers of Indian nationality might not be at the heart of human trafficking. The aircraft took off on Thursday December 21 from the United Arab Emirates and stopped for a technical stopover in France. He had to leave for the capital of Nicaragua. For Emmanuel Daoud, specialist in international law, it could be a new migratory route organized by a network. “I believe this is the first time that a plane, with all its passengers, has been grounded for obvious suspicion of human trafficking”he explains.
Illegal immigration, an ultra-lucrative business
Two men with cash and several passports were reportedly taken into custody on Friday. Although the personnel on board were questioned, all were able to leave. The company has denied any involvement in any trafficking. Every year, many Indians go to Latin America, which easily grants them visas, to try to reach the United States. Illegal immigration brings in several tens of billions of euros each year for traffickers.
