Collision injures four in Val-d’Or

(Val-D’or) A violent traffic accident left four people injured, including a child, in the middle of Christmas night on route 117 in Val-d’Or in Abitibi-Témiscamingue. Impaired driving charges may be laid in this case.

According to information provided by the Sûreté du Québec, the collision between two vehicles would have occurred shortly before 1 a.m., this Saturday, December 25, on the road to Saint-Philippe (117).

For some still undetermined reason, one of the vehicles would have deviated from its lane to collide with the other vehicle which was arriving in the opposite direction.

The driver of the first vehicle suffered serious injuries, but his life was not to be feared. However, SQ police have reason to believe that the 24-year-old could have been impaired by alcohol or drugs.

Steps were therefore taken to obtain a warrant to take blood samples. If the analyzes prove positive, charges could possibly be laid against him.

In the other vehicle, the driver, the front passenger and a child in the back all sustained serious injuries and were transported to the hospital.

According to SQ spokesperson Catherine Bernard, we no longer fear for their lives and their state of health has stabilized.

A collision reconstructionist was dispatched to the scene to try to clarify the causes and circumstances surrounding the accident. Route 117 was closed for several hours at Kienawisik Road to allow analysis of the scene.
