A 50-year-old woman is in critical condition after being hit by the driver of a vehicle on Wednesday in the Saint-Michel district.
The collision occurred shortly after 5 p.m., on Avenue Joseph-Guibord, when the pedestrian was crossing Rue Jarry towards the north, said agent Jean-Pierre Brabant, public relations officer at the City of Ville de Police Department. Montreal (SPVM).
The woman was transported to a hospital and was in critical condition at the time of writing. The driver of the vehicle, a 55-year-old man, was treated at the scene for “nervous shock”.
Rue Jarry was closed between 17e Avenue and Saint-Michel Boulevard to allow collision investigators to study the scene and understand the “circumstances which led to the collision”. Police officers were on scene to redirect traffic.
A traffic light and pedestrian crossings are located at this intersection.
In 2022, 20 people were fatally struck while traveling on foot, compared to 11 the previous year. The number of serious injuries saw a sharp increase in 2022, with 66 pedestrians suffering such injuries, compared to 40 the previous year.
