While Élisabeth Borne has committed to reforming state medical aid (AME) at the start of 2024, many detractors believe that this system attracts foreigners. Julie Calderon, journalist at the True or False unit, returns to this assertion on the set of 19/20 info, Monday December 18.
According to critics, State Medical Aid (AME) attracted more foreigners in an irregular situation. This argument was notably put forward by Bruno Retailleau, leader of the Republicans in the Senate, who mentioned the recent report by the former prefect and LR figure Patrick Stefanini, this morning of Monday December 18. “10% of the 466,000 beneficiaries of this AME came in connection with this AME“, he said.
“Almost no one knows about the AME”
“We looked in the famous report by Patrick Stefanini, we found the figure of 10%, and it comes from another study dating from 2019 (…) at the time it only concerned Paris and Bordeaux. And explained that out of 1,000 people in an irregular situation, 9.5% of people came to us for reasons related to health“, explains Julie Calderon, journalist at the True or False unit on the set of 19/20 info, Monday December 18.
According to the author of the study, “these people come because our health system is good, but almost no one knows about AME and free care“, specifies the journalist.
