(Saint-Jérôme) After two successful years in Trois-Rivières, the Montreal Alouettes announced Monday that their training camp will move to Saint-Jérôme starting next May.
The president and CEO of the Alouettes, Mark Weightman, made the announcement at the Claude-Bruneau Sports Complex, where the camp will be held, along with the mayor of Saint-Jérôme, Marc Bourcier.
The agreement is for a period of two years (2024-2025), with an option for a third year.
The Claude-Bruneau Sports Complex has just been built in Saint-Jérôme. Open only since last June, the building worth some 27 million is equipped with modern platforms, a football field the size of the Canadian Football League and all the training and meeting rooms necessary to accommodate the hundred or so players. players and the Alouettes coaching team for the duration of the camp.
The facilities will only be reserved for the Alouettes during the camp.
Weightman took great care to emphasize that it was not due to dissatisfaction with the reception and facilities of the Diablos at Cégep de Trois-Rivières that the team left Mauricie for the Laurentians, but rather out of a desire to benefit another region.
However, the Jérôme complex does not have dormitories. The Alouettes therefore agreed to a partnership with the Comfort Inn in Saint-Jérôme in order to accommodate everyone.
The Alouettes training camp will begin in mid-May. The team will play its first preseason game on May 25 at Percival-Molson Stadium, and will begin its season against the Blue Bombers in Winnipeg on June 6.
