A deadly gust of wind. At least thirteen people died on Saturday, December 16, in Bahia Blanca, a port city in southwest Argentina, when the roof of a sports club collapsed during a strong storm, authorities announced. “Unfortunately, emergency services confirm the death of 13 people at the Bahiense del Norte club. Firefighters continue to search for people still under the rubble”said the municipality.
The tragedy occurred during a skating competition within this club. In addition to heavy rainfall, the city, which is partly deprived of electricity, recorded gusts of more than 140 km/h, according to the meteorological services. These bad weather conditions also affected small neighboring towns, with some even experiencing hail.
