Ten years ago, Alexis Fourneau left everything to head to Botswana, with the aim of settling there and becoming a professional guide in the heart of animal reserves. He is the only French person to practice this profession in the country. The 20 Heures went to meet him.

At the national park of Chobe (Botswana), the bush is a paradise for wildlife. Alexis Fourneau has lived in the country for ten years. He is the only one French to be guide professional in Botswana. “From a very young age, I had the privilege of having parents who made me travel a lot. I had the chance to grow up between two worlds, between Africa and France. And then one day, I decided to leave everything behind and go and fulfill my childhood dream, which was to become a safari guide.”, he says. Alexis Fourneau leads around twenty expeditions per year. It is a real immersion in the middle of nature for the travelers who accompany him.

A drastic anti-poaching fight

That night, lions are close to their camp. Alexis will stay up all night, but the lions won’t show up until the next morning. Here, the fight against poaching has been drastic for years. Many elephants have taken refuge in the region. Almost half of the elephants remaining on the African continent are found in Botswana. In the African savannah, Alexis Fourneau found his paradise.
