Thanks to the rains, the level of the water tables has risen, and some even to a very high level. Reloading has been effective in the west and northeast of the country.

For several weeks, many residents have been watching the water rise. As episodes of intense rain increase, villages find themselves condemned. Problematic for residents, but essential for groundwater. According to the BRGM, the recent abundant rainfall has indeed “had a beneficial impact” on French water tables.

“We are starting from such a deficit”

48% of tablecloths are above seasonal norms, compared to only 14% on November 1st. The change remains disparate across the territory, as 41% of water tables remain below monthly normals. “We are starting from such a deficit that for certain aquifers, we would need a record rainfall at the end of December, January, February and March to be able to replenish the stock everywhere”explains Alain Dupuy, professor of hydrogeology.
