This increase is lower than what was predicted at the end of November by a group of experts on the minimum wage, which expected a 1.7% increase in the minimum wage at the start of 2024. This group recommended that the government abstain of all “boost” going beyond the automatic revaluation mechanism based on inflation.
He notably argued that the minimum wage was increased seven times between January 1, 2021 and December 31, 2023, for a total increase of 13.5%, and estimated that a greater increase could have negative effects. “on the employment of vulnerable people”.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Labor (Dares), the number of employees paid the minimum wage has increased significantly, rising to 3.1 million as of January 1, 2023, or 17.3% of all employees.
