Seniors: will nursing homes soon welcome pets?
Seniors: will nursing homes soon welcome pets? – (France 2)
In some nursing homes, residents can move in with their pets. The National Assembly voted for an amendment to make this compulsory.
Since the spring, Katia Siegrist, 81, has moved into a senior residence with her dog. For her, it was unthinkable to part with it. Like her, in this residence, around ten seniors have moved in with their pets. Being able to keep your animal, even in nursing homes, could soon become an obligation for establishments, after an amendment voted by the National Assembly.
The amendment must be voted on by the Senate
“It really facilitates exchanges, it facilitates integration too”, welcomes Madeleine Heitz, “Domitys” Kingersheim residence director. In another establishment, with often medical rooms, the reception of domestic animals poses daily questions. “I think it will have to fit within the family”, anticipates Marie-Clothilde Kipp, nursing home director, “Adèle de Glaubitz” association. The amendment must still be voted on by the Senate before coming into force.
