As she gives her first Christmas speech as a widow, the monarch sits next to a photo of herself and her late husband Prince Philip, according to images taken at Windsor Castle, England. Prince Philip died on April 9, 2021 at the age of 99. This year will therefore mark the first Christmas that Queen Elizabeth II will spend without him since their marriage in 1947.

It should be noted that the Christmas televised message is a British tradition where the Queen evokes the meaning of the holiday season and takes a look at the challenges facing the country.

Kate Middleton in the festivities

In a message posted Thursday on Instagram, the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, thanked the citizens for the support they have offered to their community. “We have been through dark times. We had so many challenges. We have lost loved ones. We have seen our frontline workers under immense pressure. We have also been emotionally and socially distant and isolated from each other, ”the Duchess mentioned. The latter will make her first public piano performance during a Christmas carol show that will be broadcast on Friday evening.
