In Isère, the children’s film festival finds its little cinephiles with a rich program

Last year, the festival was cut short because of the Covid. A bad memory that the organizers intend to make families forget with this 23rd edition.

At the Espace Aragon in Villard-Bonnot and the Jeu de Paume in Vizille, some children are discovering the world of dark rooms for the first time. Because they are very young or simply because of the health crisis. But during these All Saints holidays, they will be able to make up for lost time. Forty films are showing, including 6 previews. Documentaries, animated cinema from yesterday and today. The little ones are especially invited to discover a Disney classic, The Aristocats.

Among the planned novelties, the older ones will enjoy a great story, The Wolf People, the last animated feature film by the tandem Tomm Moore and Ross Stewart, directors of the excellent Prophet (2015). The humor is also at the rendezvous with Little Nicolas’ treasure. The Addams Family 2 will immerse children over 7 in wacky and crazy adventures.

This 23rd edition also offers, this year, a selection of films for over 12s. A novelty. The objective is not to lose this audience which used to attend the festival when it was younger. “It really means developing programming aimed at the greatest” explains its manager, Marie Freydière. Seven feature films and documentaries are aimed at teenagers. There is in particular, in preview, High and loud by Franco-Moroccan director Nabil Ayouch, who tells how young people in Casablanca are freeing themselves from the weight of traditions through hip hop culture. Ecology, sexuality, the acceptance of differences are also at the heart of this program.

The festival also invites children to take part in various activities: meetings with artists, film readings, a disguised Halloween party, quizzes and blind tests. Activities that should delight young and old.

Children’s film festival, at the Espace Aragon in Villard-Bonnot and at the Jeu de Paume in Vizille (Isère), until November 3.
