Present on the set of 20 Heures, Monday December 11, the political columnist of France Télévisions Nathalie Saint-Cricq discusses the adoption in the National Assembly of the motion to reject the bill on immigration, and on its consequences at the top of the state.

On Monday, December 11, MPs adopted the motion to reject the immigration bill. Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior, presented his resignation in the evening to Emmanuel Macron, who refused it. “It is the logic first of Emmanuel Macron to refuse what is asked of him, and in particular under pressure from the Assembly. (…) Then, because it is in his interest to minimize the snub, even if it is huge and very boring for the rest of the text”explains France Télévisions political columnist Nathalie Saint-Cricq, present on the set of 20 Hours.

The risk of “a totally paralyzed government”

There Prime Minister also seems weakened after this failure. Will she stay at her post? “She will try to regain control. (…) But we were already talking about a probable reshuffle in January”recalls the political columnist. “It is very weakened, Emmanuel Macron too, and there is probably an interest in changing things in January (…), because otherwise, we will see a totally paralyzed government”she adds.
