The prefect of the North, Georges-François Leclerc, has decided to terminate the association contract linking the Lille Muslim high school Averroès to the State, France Bleu Nord learned from the prefecture, Sunday December 10. This decision was taken by the prefect on Thursday and the letter was sent on Friday.
The establishment of 473 students, opened in 2003, is singled out for a Qatari donation in 2014, a disputed religious work in the bibliography of spiritual teaching, and management irregularities. “These are insinuations, there is not the slightest beginning of an element”, assures one of the school’s lawyers, Joseph Breham. “There is no link with the Muslim Brotherhood.”
In 2014, the high school received a donation from a Qatari NGO of around 900,000 euros, which allowed it to purchase its current premises. The director of the establishment Eric Dufour indicates for his part that the high school has not received any foreign donations since 2015 and that all funding is transparent.
