Telethon 2023: another day to give – (FRANCEINFO)
Already more than 35 million euros have been raised for the second day of the Telethon. In the French Overseas Territories, mobilization is strong. In Reunion, the number of people affected by these rare diseases is estimated at 40,000.
Joseph can no longer move around without his walking stick. For six years, he has suffered from a serious degenerative disease: Charcot disease. The symptoms: severe fatigue and the inability to stand for too long. He finds his balance in his passion for the land of Reunion. Not a day goes by without taking care of your plants or trees. His son, Gilbert, 34, carries the burden of Charcot disease. For him, his escape is driving on a circuit. Currently, no treatment exists to cure this disease; research needs more resources to achieve this.
84,000 euros raised last year
In New Caledonia, an aikido club is mobilizing for the Telethon. The president of the club also had to deal with illness, that of her child. At Nouméa town hall, a telephone reception is set up to collect donations. In 2022, in one day alone, 84,000 euros were collected in New Caledonia.
