Editions Albert René announced on Saturday November 9 that the animated series Asterix directed by Alain Chabat would be broadcast on Netflix in 2025. More than twenty years after the success ofAsterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatrawhich had achieved nearly 25 million admissions worldwide, the filmmaker will this time adapt the album The Battle of the Leadersa classic published in 1966 by Goscinny and Uderzo.
The American streaming platform announced the development of this series in March 2021 and the last release date communicated was 2024. “It is in Toulouse, within the TAT studio, that the series is currently produced. See you on screens in the first half of 2025”, revealed the publishing house Albert René in a press release. The latest animated version of the adventures of the famous Gaul, Asterix: The Secret of the Magic Potiondates back to 2018.
A hero celebrating his 65th birthday
Asterix enjoyed great popular success with the film Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom, directed by Guillaume Canet. Released in February 2023, it has accumulated 4.6 million admissions in France, the biggest success in French cinema this year. In bookstores, the Gaul is the undisputed star of comics. The white Iris40th album released at the end of October, needed less than a month to reach one million copies sold, and should undoubtedly finish as the best-selling book in France in 2023.
Editions Albert René are celebrating the 65th anniversary of Asterix in 2024 with, among other things, expanded reissues of five albums. The first, Asterix the gallicdated 1961 after its serialization in the magazine Pilot in 1959, will be released on January 17. In Paris, in October 2024, the Atelier des Lumières will present an immersive exhibition dedicated to Asterix and the Grévin museum will unveil statues of Asterix, Obelix and Dogmatix.
