In Montpellier, a couple welcomes a student for Christmas

No way to celebrate Christmas alone! This is the philosophy of Yness and Nicolas, a couple who live in Montpellier. This Friday, December 24, 2021, the two lovers welcome a stranger to their table : a 24-year-old student. A way to celebrate New Year’s Eve in a festive and family atmosphere, even far from their loved ones. Both recently left their native region, Alsace, to settle in Hérault last June.

We said to ourselves that we were certainly not the only ones who could not spend Christmas with our family – Nicolas

It all started with a publication, on social networks, last Saturday. Yness offers to host a student for Christmas. More than 400 internet users react, including Céleste, this young 24-year-old woman who also finds herself stranded in Montpellier. “We don’t know much about her, because we said to ourselves that we were just going to take advantage of the evening to discover her, explains Yness. We just know that she is a student to become a bartender and that she was supposed to work for Christmas, and it ultimately did not happen.

For New Year’s Eve, the couple puts the small dishes in the big ones. “We have planned a lot of small things, but the idea is rather that everyone bring something so as not to have a big meal“, Nicolas notes. After dinner, board games are on the menu. The two Alsatians have also planned gifts, in particular bredele, cakes typical of their region.

As a precaution, Yness and Nicolas asked their guest to be tested. In any case, Covid-19 or not, they would have posted their ad: out of a desire to help, out of curiosity to discover new faces and out of the hope that, perhaps, other people would follow their initiative.
