(Longueuil) An octogenarian was injured in the fire of a single-family residence Saturday evening in Longueuil, in Montérégie.
Emergency services were notified by a 911 call, around 10:50 p.m., about this house which was on fire on Brodeur Street.
When firefighters from the Longueuil Agglomeration Fire Safety Service (SSIAL) arrived, there were still people inside the burning house.
Firefighters rescued four people, including an 86-year-old woman who suffered burns to her back. She was transported to hospital, like the three other people affected by smoke inhalation: a 24-year-old woman, a 60-year-old woman and a 54-year-old man.
The state of health of the octogenarian was not immediately specified.
“The cause would be of electrical origin,” indicated Stéphane Difruscia, division head of operations and training at SSIAL. The flames apparently started in the basement of the residence.
“The fire was brought under control relatively quickly and there was approximately $75,000 in damage,” he said.
Around 30 firefighters battled the flames and the fire was brought under control around 11:30 p.m.
