Presidential 2024 | Biden turns to Hollywood for his fundraising campaign

(Washington) President Joe Biden will travel to Los Angeles next week for a high-profile event that will be his first since strikes by writers and actors disrupted his long-running entertainment industry fundraising. served as a cash cow for the Democratic Party.


The event next Friday at the home of Michael Smith, a famous interior designer, and his partner James Costos, a former HBO executive who served as President Barack Obama’s ambassador to Spain, is expected to generate millions of dollars and attract a crowd of stars. Rocker Lenny Kravitz is scheduled to perform.

Director Steven Spielberg and his wife, actress Kate Capshaw, are among the event’s hosts, as are recording industry mogul David Geffen, producer and director Shonda Rhimes and director Rob Reiner.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is also among the hosts. Singer Barbra Streisand is expected to attend.

The event is part of a broader fundraising campaign by Mr. Biden and comes as the Democratic president tries to rake in cash for what will likely be a grueling rematch against Republican Donald Trump.

Biden is also planning fundraisers in Washington, Boston, Maryland, where he will appear with Gov. Wes Moore, and Philadelphia, where he will be joined by Gov. Josh Shapiro.
