Former French Prime Minister François Fillon has joined the board of directors of Russian petrochemical giant Sibur, the group announced Thursday (December 23). The company has published an updated list of its board of directors, placing François Fillon as an independent director. The group is notably controlled by Leonid Mikhelson, one of the richest men in Russia, and Gennadi Timchenko, a close friend of President Vladimir Putin.
Sentenced in France in June 2020 to five years in prison, two of which closed in a resounding case of fictitious jobs, François Fillon had joined, at the end of June, the board of directors of another Russian company, Zaroubejneft. The company specializes in the development and exploitation of hydrocarbon deposits, particularly abroad, and is owned by the State. François Fillon is also the head of Apteras, a consulting firm he created in 2017.
