The town of Avdiivka is the center of attention in Ukraine. This locality in the Donetsk region has become a major issue for kyiv and Moscow. Most of the inhabitants have left, there were 30,000 before the war, there are now only a thousand left.
It is a scene that has become almost usual in Ukraine: collapsed building blocks, gutted apartments, ravaged facades, charred by the explosions. Avdiivka, a town like many others in the Ukrainian mining basin, has become a major objective for Moscow. There are constant explosions because since October 10, Russian troops have launched a third wave of assault against this town in the Donetsk region. Most of the residents fled. Before the war, 30,000 people lived here, today there are only a few hundred, maybe a thousand.
The hell of the trenches
Not far from there, there is the hell of the trenches. In footage filmed by a Ukrainian soldier, troops crawl to avoid impacts. One of the Ukrainian soldiers was wounded in the chest and treated on the ground. Another is hit in the arm. Faced with the assault, a Ukrainian soldier threw a grenade in the direction of the Russians, a few meters away. The Russian armored vehicles are also very close, the soldiers feel the vibrations. The city is largely destroyed.
