This is unprecedented for a serving minister. The Minister of Justice, Éric Dupond-Moretti, who remained in office throughout his trial for illegal taking of interests, was acquitted this Wednesday, November 29, 2023. After 10 days, the Court of Justice of the Republic (CJR) declared this litigant like any other “not guilty“.
We avoid resignation
“There is no evidence to suggest that he ignored the conflict of interest situation which had not been brought to his attention”, explained the president of the CJR. Éric Dupond-Moretti was accused, and in two separate cases, of having used his position as minister to settle scores with four magistrates whom he had publicly criticized when he was a lawyer.
And while the prosecution had requested a one-year suspended prison sentence for the Minister of Justice, it is a great relief in his camp. Indeed, a conviction, even “the lowest”even “the most ridiculous”, would have been enough to cause his “resignation”, his lawyers argued. Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne would thus have had to fill a hole in her government. “The Minister of Justice will be able to continue to carry out his action within the government team, in the service of the French. I am happy about it” she reacted on X, immediately.
The Court of Justice of the Republic rendered its decision and acquitted Éric Dupond-Moretti. The Minister of Justice will be able to continue to carry out his action within the government team, in the service of the French. I am delighted about it.

And this is necessarily good news for the woman who has shared the life of the professional lawyer since 2016 – namely the singer Isabelle Boulay. She who entered into a civil partnership with the one we call “Acquittator“, in 2021 entrusted in March 2023 to Gala, about their relationship: “I am a very big lover, very faithful but, at the same time, I need solitude. Eric understands my nature… I am a woman who is expected. He knows it“.
“I try to be there for him, like a lover is there for her lover…”
She, who divides her life between France and Canada, where Isabelle Boulay continues her career and takes care of her son Marcus, explained that they had found a balance like that. In December 2020, however, she also declared on the Quebec show “The week of 4”: “I am the person who accompanies him in his life, but it is his life. I’m not proud of that. I try to be there for him, like a lover is there for her lover…“
