Actor but also director, Gilles Lellouche goes back behind the camera after “The big bath”released in 2018.”phew love” currently in editing, is one of the most anticipated films of 2024. And while he is currently editing it, our colleagues from Première asked the movie star why he had not directed a film for 14 years after his very first feature film…
“Because of the painful Narco experience”
It was in 2004, after a few short films, Gilles Lellouche made his very first film, “Narco“, with the cast Guillaume Canet, Zabou Breitman, Benoît Poelvoorde, Guillaume Gallienne, François Berléand. And due to trauma, it was necessary to wait many years before Guillaume Canet’s best friend confronted himself again with his art.
In the columns of the monthly, he explains: “Because of the painful Narco experience, precisely. The filming went very badly. I was 30 years old, it was my first film, made with my friend Tristan Aurouet. And to remember: “I had a not very friendly team, who didn’t have much compassion or patience. And what’s more, I was very disappointed by the result of the film, a thousand miles from what I had fantasized about“.”Me, I need things to go well, love, sharing. heat. That’s my Michel Fugain side!” he says, laughing, while admitting: “Narco therefore caused a slight trauma for me.”
During this time, Gilles Lellouche preferred to act for years. He also played a lot with Guillaume Canet, moreover, in “Do not tell anyone”In “The little handkerchiefsIn “Rock’N’Roll”and more recently in “We will end up together”And “Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom”.
“There was an unacknowledged frustration within me”
Today, the star of “Bac Nord” readily admits: “there was an unacknowledged frustration in me”. And added: “But the tempos of each actor are very different and often unfair, whether in success or failure. I think success is an anesthetic and I distrust it like the plague. It’s a kind of layer of fat around the heart, the motivation and the demands.”
