A final tribute. “I know, Gérard, everything I owe you”, declared, Wednesday, November 29, Emmanuel Macron in the Saint-Jean cathedral in Lyon, where he attended the funeral of Gérard Collomb. “Not for a single moment do I forget that, without your strength of soul, your taste for dialogue, your sense of friendship, without having crossed your path, I would not be where I am”added the Head of State in tribute to the former mayor of Lyon, who was one of the first political figures to join him in his conquest of the Elysée.
“Dear Gérard, for all this, for these thousands of changed lives, for your tender outbursts of voice as well as your kindness, your departure leaves an immense void for your wife and your children, for the people of Lyon, for the French”continued the president.
“Your analyses, your frankness, your culture (…) I will miss our complicity just as Brigitte will miss you who loves you so much. And if during my investiture ceremony you shed unforgettable tears, it is to us, to me, to be today embraced by sorrow, inconsolable”. “The wind is rising, we must try to live. You have reached other shores and yet you will continue to be among us (…) Farewell Gérard and thank you”concluded Emmanuel Macron.
