Hamas and Israel agreed to extend the truce. With this temporary ceasefire, humanitarian aid enters Gaza more easily, where 2 million people live in a catastrophic situation.

Since the start of the war, international humanitarian aid has landed at Al airport Arich, in North Sinai (Egypt). Qatar, very active in the negotiations, is also one of the largest donors. “We are trying to increase our aid as much as we can. As you know, the logistics are very difficult. To get the material into Gaza, it is a very long procedure.”explains Youssef El-Molla, a Qatari humanitarian.

“They need to feed”

The kilometers of stopped humanitarian trucks bear witness to this; the Egyptian authorities accuse Israel of increasing the vehicle inspection time tenfold. For a driver traveling back and forth between Cairo and Rafahan improvement has been notable since the start of the truce. “Yesterday, there were 200 trucks that returned. (…) To survive, they need to eat, to drink, to take care of themselves”says this truck driver.

The temporary ceasefire has already allowed 190 Palestinians, stranded in Egypt, to return to the Gaza Strip. A father of five children prepares to cross the border. “I’m going to go back and be with my children and my whole family. Going back there and dying as a martyr is better than staying in Egypt.”, he assures. Two additional days of truce were declared.
