THE Renaissance Tour of the singer Beyoncé was with theEras Tour by Taylor Swift, the most anticipated tour of the year. Between record recipes, spectacular costumes and meticulous choreography, Beyoncé created a futuristic world on stage by singing the songs from her eponymous album, released in July 2022. More than a year after this release, the “renaissance” of Beyoncé is still on everyone’s lips with the release of his documentary film which goes behind the scenes of this tour event.
1 Highest-grossing world tour in history for a female artist
With $592.4 million in revenue, the Renaissance Tour becomes the highest-grossing world tour in history for a female artist. Beyoncé thus surpasses Madonna and her Sticky and Sweet Tour from 2008-2009. The ultimate record is currently held by Elton John, whose farewell tour Farewell Yellow Brick Road (2018-2023) grossed over $910 million.
The tour brought together more than 2.7 million fans from the first date in Stockholm, Sweden to the last date in Kansas City, Missouri (United States). In the documentary film which is released in theaters on December 1 and 2, “it’s about Beyoncé’s vision, her hard work, her involvement in all aspects of production, her creative spirit and her drive to create her legacy and master her craft”explains the synopsis of the film.
2 Tribute to Beyoncé’s inspirations
Renaissance, a film by Beyoncé, is not just a simple recording of the concert. Above all, it retraces the process of creating the show, and includes moments behind the scenes or in rehearsals, with appearances by the various celebrities who went on stage with Beyoncé, or came to support her among the spectators. We can thus see in the trailers, images of the legendary Diana Ross wishing a happy birthday to Queen Bey, the rappers Kendrick Lamar and Megan Thee Stallion who both share a song with Beyoncé, or even the DJ Kevin Aviance, eminent figure of the ballroom scene, very moved to see his title Cunty resonate in the stadiums.
We also see the singer’s fans, a community of die-hard fans nicknamed “BeyHive” (a play on words, “beehive” meaning “beehive” in French), who dressed for the occasion in silver clothing in homage to the singer. futuristic aesthetic of the album Renaissance. “I have nothing left to prove to anyone at this point. We are creating our own world. This is my reward. No one can take that away from me.”, says Beyoncé. The show is also a fashion parade in itself with around sixty different costumes, custom-created by haute couture houses. We can cite Alexander McQueen, Versace, Gucci, Mugler, Balmain or Paco Rabanne. More than a hundred costumes in total were created for Beyoncé. Some have still not been worn by the singer even though the tour is over.
3 Rare confessions and family images
Singer Beyoncé has been very discreet in the media for many years and almost never gives interviews. She controls her communication with a firm hand. The moments where she confides and talks about her personal life are therefore particularly scrutinized by fans. Beyoncé is complicit and natural in the company of her family, her husband the famous rapper Jay-Z, but also her children, the twins Rumi and Sir or her mother Tina who accompanies her on all her tours. We also find Beyoncé’s father, Mathew Knowles, who practically launched his career with the group Destiny’s Child. We also see former members of the group like Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams hugging each other backstage.
It is especially the singer’s confessions in voice-over that are striking. “In this world dominated by men, I had to show a lot of tenacity to find a balance between motherhood and the stage”she said in a calm voice. “When I perform, I am nothing but free. The goal of this tour was to create a place where everyone is free and no one is judged”she adds.
4 The rise of Beyoncé’s eldest daughter, Blue Ivy Carter
Beyoncé announced the film hours after performing the final concert of the world tour Renaissance, in Kansas City, at the beginning of October. During these almost three hours of film, Beyoncé especially evokes the appearance on stage of Blue Ivy, her eldest daughter, 11 years old. She joined her mother to dance to the songs My Power And Black Parade, during the only concert at the Stade de France in Paris. The choreography also gave rise to a dance challenge and was widely shared on social networks.

This appearance was to be a one-off, but Blue Ivy wanted to join her mother in the other shows, as her father Jay-Z reported in an interview with CBS. “I still get chills when I see her on stage. I told her ‘if you want to continue being on stage, you have to continue working with the dancers’. She worked every day.” Fans will be able to see the film Renaissance in theaters December 1 and 2. There is currently no information on what will become of this concert film after its theatrical release. It should probably be released on a video platform like Netflix, the broadcaster of Beyoncé’s other documentary film, Homecoming. He retraced the creative process for his concert at the Coachella festival in 2018.
“Renaissance, a film by Beyoncé” can be found in theaters on December 1 and 2 in Pathé and UGC cinemas.
