Riots took place in Dublin (Ireland) on Thursday, November 23, after a knife attack which left five people injured, including three children. Violence attributed to the far right.

A bus burned, stores looted: Dublin (Ireland) is plagued by scenes of chaos. From 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 23, several hundred people took to the streets to demonstrate. Very quickly, clashes broke out in a neighborhood where an immigrant population lived. “We have a faction of completely crazy hooligans driven by far-right ideology. This disruptive trend is engaging in serious violence”confides Drew Harris, Commissioner of the Irish National Police.

Terrorist motive ruled out

Violence linked to rumors about the origin of the man who attacked five people with a knife early in the afternoon: a five-year-old girl and a woman were seriously injuredare. “I think the Nation is shocked, because children are involved, innocent children who were on their way to school”, said Leo Varadkar, Prime Minister of Ireland. The alleged attacker, aged around 50, was arrested. According to investigators, his action was isolated, ruling out any terrorist motive.
