Five people, including three children, were hospitalized on Thursday, November 23, after a knife attack in Dublin, Irish police said. A suspect has been arrested, announced Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar. The Irish media RTE specifies that the police do not characterize the facts as being of a terrorist nature. The five victims were taken to several hospitals in the Irish capital region, according to police. Among them, a little girl and a woman are “seriously” injured.
“We are all shocked by what happened in Parnell Square”declared the Irish Prime Minister in a press release consulted by AFP, addressing “thoughts and prayers” to the victims and their families. “The facts in this case are still emerging. Emergency services responded very quickly and were on scene within minutes”he continued. A security cordon was established around the scene of the attack, in the center of the Irish capital.
Incidents broke out on Thursday evening in Dublin and a police car was set on fire not far from the scene of the stabbing attack. “Irish Lives Matter” signs and Irish flags were brandished by hundreds of demonstrators during these clashes which broke out in this neighborhood where there is a particularly immigrant population.
