Teachers’ strike: see if your school is affected

Parents of students will have to organize themselves well, from Tuesday, to navigate between the strike days of school staff associated with the Common Front – scheduled for November 21 to 23 – and those of teachers affiliated with the Autonomous Federation of Education (FAE), who will launch an indefinite strike from November 23.

Here is a summary of the school service centers concerned which indicates how long they will be there, depending on whether their teachers are represented by the FAE or not.

MONTREAL

• Montreal School Service Center (represented by the FAE)

All CSSDM establishments and daycare services will be closed from Tuesday, November 21, for an indefinite period, the commission indicated on its website. Only courses and internships which are planned outside the center’s establishments are maintained.

As for the administrative center, it will be closed on November 21, 22 and 23.

• Pointe-de-l’Île school service center (represented by the FAE)

The unions of support staff and professionals at the Pointe-de-l’Île School Service Center will be on strike from Tuesday, November 21 to Thursday, November 23 inclusive, the center said.

FAE teachers will be on indefinite strike from November 23.

Classes and childcare services will therefore be suspended from Tuesday, November 21 for an unlimited period.

• Marguerite-Bourgeoys school service center (represented by the FAE)

Support and professional staff at the service center will be on strike from November 21 to 23. Teachers will begin their indefinite strike on November 23.

“Consequently, all CSSMB educational establishments will be closed from Tuesday for an indefinite period. Daycare services will not be available,” it was mentioned.

LAVAL

• Laval school service center (represented by the FAE)

Support and professional staff will be on strike from November 21 to 23 with the Common Front. The FAE strike will continue on November 23 for an indefinite period.

These two situations mean that the service center establishments and daycare services will all be closed as of Tuesday, with no return date announced.

• Sir Wilfrid Laurier School Board

Schools and daycare services will be suspended from November 21 to 23. Regular activities should resume on the 24th.

LAURENTIDES/LANAUDIÈRE

• Seigneurie-des-Mille-Îles school service center (represented by the FAE)

The commission announced that no courses would be given for primary and secondary schools and general adult and professional training centers of the CSSMI from November 21 and until further notice.

• Rivière-du-Nord school service center

All schools and vocational training centers will be closed for the three days of the Common Front strike from November 21 to 23. The return to normal is scheduled for November 24.

• Hautes-Laurentides school service center

A complete suspension of classes is planned for November 21, 22 and 23, as is that of daycare services. Everything will return to normal on Friday.

• Affluents school service center

All schools, training centers and administrative offices will be closed from November 21 to 23.

• Samares school service center

The school service center will not be able to offer its usual services on November 21, 22 and 23.

• Laurentides school service center

Schools, daycare services and transportation will not be provided from November 21 to 23.

ESTRIE

• Val-des-Cerfs school service center (represented by the FAE)

No classes, no school transportation, no daycare services are planned in the school establishments of this board from November 21 to 24 inclusive due to the picket lines and an educational day which was already planned for Friday.

“As the FAE informed us that it was launching an indefinite general strike from November 23, it is possible that the strike will also continue in the week of November 27,” it was underlined.

• Beauce-Etchemin school service center

Due to the Common Front strike days, school is suspended from November 21 to 23, as are daycare services and extracurricular activities.

• Sherbrooke Region School Service Center

The center indicated that no students should come to school because all establishments, including daycare services, will be closed.

• Appalachian School Service Center

“All our services will be interrupted on November 21, 22 and 23 due to the public sector employee strike,” mentioned the school service center.

• Hauts-Cantons school service center

During the staff strike from November 21 to 23, “no student should come to school, as classes in all our establishments will be suspended.”

Daycare services will also be closed.

• Sommets school service center

Classes will be suspended and no childcare will be offered from November 21 to 23. “It is expected that activities will resume normally on Friday, November 24,” it was specified.

• Eastern Townships School Board

Schools and school services will be suspended from November 21 to 23, while a return to normal is planned for Friday.

OUTAOUAIS

• Portages-de-l’Outaouais school service center (represented by the FAE)

Starting Tuesday, November 21, classes in all schools will be suspended during strike days and daycare services will also be closed.

• Draveurs school service center (represented by the FAE)

Classes, daycare services and school transportation will be canceled starting November 21, for an indefinite period.

• School service center in Cœur-des-Vallées (represented by the FAE)

Between the strike of support and professional staff and that of teachers, classes and daycare services will be closed from November 21 for an indefinite period.

It was clarified that nothing would be charged for the strike days to parents who use the daycare service.

• Hauts-Bois-de-l’Outaouais school service center

The center was obliged to “cancel school transportation, suspend classes and close all of its establishments as well as its daycare services” from November 21 to 23.

MONTREGIE

• Trois-Lacs School Service Center (represented by the FAE)

Due to the various strike mandates which will be in effect as of November 21, classes will be suspended for an unlimited period for high school students as well as for adult training.

Classes will be suspended and daycare services will be closed for elementary students from November 21 to 23.

Daycare services will be open from November 24 and classes will resume from November 27 since the 24th is an educational day.

• Patriotes school service center

Schools and training centers will be closed from November 21 to 23. An educational meeting is planned for Friday, only childcare services will be back for the 24th.

• Marie-Victorin school service center

During the strike days from November 21 to 23, educational and childcare services will not be offered, as will extracurricular activities.

• Saint-Hyacinthe school service center

School activities will be suspended from November 21 to 23.

• Riveraine school service center

Schools, centers and administrative services as well as daycare services will be closed from November 21 to 23.

• Sorel-Tracy school service center

Schools and training centers will be closed from November 21 to 23. An educational day will be held on Friday, but childcare services will be reopened according to the arrangements at that time.

• Hautes-Rivières school service center

Activities will return to normal on November 24 after three days of strike from November 21 to 23.

• New Frontiers School Board

Classes and daycare services will be stopped from November 21 to 23 before resuming on November 24.

• Riverside School Board

The strike planned for November 21 to 23 will paralyze the schools in this establishment, while an educational day is planned for Friday.

QUEBEC

• Capital School Service Center (represented by the FAE)

The center reported that it was unable to maintain its activities and that it was obliged to suspend all courses from November 21 until further notice.

Primary school daycare services will also be closed.

“Despite the return to work of daycare staff as of November 24, the nature of the teachers’ strike is such that it is impossible for us to know where and when picket lines will be established, this which could make it difficult, or even impossible, to access certain places,” Marie-Claude Lavoie, the center’s communications coordinator, said by email.

• Premières-Seigneuries school service center (represented by the FAE)

Classes and daycare services will be suspended from November 21 to 23 due to the support and professional staff strike.

Activities will also be stopped from November 23, for an indefinite period, due to the FAE teachers’ strike.

• Charlevoix school service center

Schools, daycare services, school transportation and administrative centers will be shut down from November 21 to 23 before resuming normal activities on November 24.

• Portneuf school service center

All unionized staff will be on strike from November 21 to 23, forcing the suspension of all school activities.

• Des Découvreurs school service center

All schools, including daycare services, will be closed on November 21, 22 and 23. “Activities will resume normally on November 24,” it was announced.
