With his “Rencontres de Beauvau”, Gérald Darmanin risks annoying within the executive

150 local elected officials were brought together by the Minister of the Interior on Wednesday evening in what he called the “Beauvau meetings”. A barely veiled snub at the meetings in Saint-Denis, led by the head of state with the party bosses.

A “Great Debate” style exercise, which is likely to annoy within the executive. Just the name seems provocative: the “Beauvau meetings” necessarily recall those of Saint-Denis, the second edition of which will take place around the Head of State on Friday November 17, without the right, nor the socialists, nor La France insoumise .

So, what does Gérald Darmanin play? Galvanized by his “victory” in the Senate, which voted on the immigration bill on Tuesday, November 14, by toughening the text, the ambitious Minister of the Interior seems willing to relaunch himself, and above all not to be forgotten.

“Tourcoing phase 2”

The first edition, Wednesday evening, brought together 150 local elected officials at Place Beauvau, a few days before the Congress of Mayors of France. “We have the majority and the opposition here, it’s a beautiful symbol”launched Gérald Darmanin at the opening.

On stage, a Renaissance MP and a Les Republicains MP play the masters of ceremonies. In an armchair, the Minister of the Interior takes notes, writes a few text messages. Violence, illegal dumping, municipal police… “All this is a pretext, it’s Tourcoing phase 2”, smiles a friend, already there, at the end of the summer, when Gérald Darmanin gathered his supporters at his home, in the North, for a game of pétanque around a beer and a plate of fries. This time, “it was an aperitif“, as the minister said, greeted by a round of applause. And above all, this time, no Élisabeth Borne on the horizon to spoil the party.
