Nine people are still in police custody on the morning of Thursday, November 16, as part of the investigation opened after the death of Fayed, in Nîmes, according to information from franceinfo. The 10-year-old boy was shot and killed at the end of August, a collateral victim of drug trafficking. The suspects are being held in police custody for murder by an organized gang.

From a source close to the case, these people were arrested between Monday and Tuesday in the Nîmes region and in the Marseille region. Investigators managed to identify the suspects in particular thanks to the prints discovered on the shell casings found on the ground in August after the shootings, thus confirming information from the newspaper The Parisian.

Two suspects taken from prison to be heard

The nine suspects, aged 17 to 30, are suspected of belonging to a Nîmes team involved in drug trafficking and which wanted to attack a competing deal point in the Pissevin district. All of them are already well known to the police for possession of weapons, drug trafficking, kidnapping and sequestration, and criminal conspiracy. This team also includes young Marseillais, suspected of having been called in for reinforcements for the shooting. Note that among the nine individuals currently in police custody, two suspects were taken from prison to be able to be heard in this case.

On August 21, Fayed, 10, died in Nîmes after being shot while in the car of his uncle, who was himself injured. The events took place in the Pissevin district, in the southwest of the city, around 11 p.m. The uncle, who lives in the neighborhood, was driving home with his two nephews when the shooting broke out. The second nephew escaped unhurt.

Investigators are therefore also seeking to determine whether among these nine suspects are the perpetrators of the shots responsible for the death of the little boy. In August, according to witnesses interviewed at the time of the events, four shooters were counted. They fled in a stolen vehicle, found nearby a short time later. The use of the telephone allowed the judicial police to be convinced that several of the nine in custody were indeed on the scene at the time of the shooting.
