The largest school service center in Quebec, that of Montreal, announces that its schools will be closed as of next Tuesday, “for an indefinite period”.
Next November 21, 22 and 23, there will be strike days for support staff and professionals, whose unions are affiliated with the common front, who are forcing the closure of schools in the metropolis.
Then, as of November 23, it was Montreal school teachers, represented by the Teachers’ Alliance, who announced the start of an indefinite general strike.
“The unions have informed us that there will be picketing or mobilization activities in front of CSSDM establishments. In this context, all CSSDM schools, including daycare services, will be closed from Tuesday, November 21, 2023, for an indefinite period,” writes the general director of the Montreal school service center, Isabelle Gélinas.
It is not only in Montreal that students will be deprived of classes.
The nine unions affiliated with the Autonomous Federation of Education hold such a general strike mandate. They represent 65,000 teachers from Montreal, but also from the Lower Laurentians, Outaouais, Quebec and Laval.
