Health: 3,500 doctors opposed to the abolition of state medical aid – (franceinfo)
While the abolition of state medical aid should be debated in the National Assembly in mid-December, 3,500 doctors have decided to oppose a measure which, according to them, goes against the principles of the oath of Hippocrates.
3,500 doctors unite to save AME, state medical aid that the Senate wishes to transform into emergency medical aid. For them, this is going against the basic principles of the Hippocratic Oath, providing care to those who need it. “If this decision were taken, we undertake to do everything possible not to respect an instruction which would be to close the door to these patients or make them pay”indicates Antoine Pelissolo, psychiatrist and head of department at the Henri-Mondor hospital in Créteil (Val-de-Marne).
The Republicans spearhead the measure
A declaration of disobedience against the idea of caring for people in an irregular situation only in cases of extreme emergency. Not provided for in the immigration bill, this article was added by the Les Républicains group, the majority in the Senate. Two motivations for their argument: the idea of a potential migratory surge and a measure that is too costly for the state coffers. Sunday November 12, Aurélien Rousseau, Minister of Health, provided his support to the medical profession. The text should be debated in mid-December in the National Assembly.
