Winter storm over eastern Quebec, up to 40 cm of snow

A snowstorm that can leave up to 40 centimeters of accumulations on the ground will sweep eastern Quebec from Wednesday evening.

Environment Canada indicates that the snow will begin in the evening before decreasing in intensity during the day Thursday.

“The snow will recede Thursday evening, but the strong northwesterly winds in the wake of the system will generate blowing snow on Friday,” the federal agency said.

The storm will affect the Gaspé, Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, Sept-Îles, Anticosti, the Îles-de-la-Madeleine and part of the Bas-Saint-Laurent in particular.

The Lower North Shore is also concerned by a special weather report announcing a low pressure system accompanied by a lot of snow, strong winds and blowing snow for the day Thursday.

Strong winds could persist until Friday.

Traffic will be difficult on the roads, warned the federal agency which calls for more caution.
