Éric Dupond-Moretti is at the helm. His trial for illegal taking of interests opens Monday, November 6. What are the facts with which he is accused?
For the first times, the ex-star lawyer, Éric Dupond-Moretti, is in the shoes of a defendant. The Minister of Justice is on trial for illegal taking of interests, a first for a serving minister. Before three judges and 12 parliamentarians from all sides, he will have to explain the administrative investigations against four magistrates with whom he had disagreements when he was practicing.
Up to five years in prison
The file begins in June 2020, on the sidelines of the Paul Bismuth affair. At the time, he denounced an investigation “barbouzade”. Having become a minister, he launched an administrative investigation against the head of the PNF. The other part concerns a former investigating judge seconded to Monaco whom he described as “cowboy”. If found guilty, Éric Dupond-Moretti faces up to five years in prison.
