The prosecutor of the Lisieux court on Tuesday requested a four-month suspended prison sentence for a gendarme from the Republican Guard of Deauville who was prosecuted for animal abuse, France Bleu Normandie reported on Wednesday, November 8. The Lisieux court will deliver its decision on December 5, 2023.
The president of the Lisieux court listed one by one the alleged abuse inflicted by the 41-year-old soldier on the five horses at the Deauville station by a gendarme of the Republican Guard. Cardinal pushed with the pick of the pitchfork, Eliot who gets a slap for not getting into the van quickly enough, Enez, who refuses to cross a stream, beaten and insulted.
The defendant says he is “disgusted by these accusations”
At the bar, the defendant, a 41-year-old soldier, asserts his right to silence. Then he ends up explaining his passion for horses since he was four years old, his training in gentle methods. “I am disgusted by these accusations”, he blurted. His lawyer denounces the jealousy of his colleagues, and “an incriminating investigation after allegations made by gendarmes, carried out by gendarmes with gendarmes”.
The gendarme accused is one of four riders attached to the Deauville horse station. Among its missions: monitoring beaches, surrounding communities, but also oyster beds during holidays or major events such as the Deauville American Cinema Festival or D-Day anniversaries.
We must condemn “abject and cowardly behavior”, demand the five animal defense associations present at the hearing, “especially from a soldier from a prestigious institution which brings honor to France”. Associations claiming a total of around ten thousand euros in damages.
