Speaking candidly about euthanasia, Dave recalled that his native country, the Netherlands, was one of the first to legalize it. Although he approves of this gentle end of life, he nevertheless has reservations, whom he met during the disappearance of his mother : “You know, doubt has also set in in the Netherlands, which is nevertheless one of the first countries to have authorized euthanasia. When we experienced it like me, while waiting for the result of the autopsy to being sure that we were not wrong, almost hoping that the metastases prevented all hope, that raises questions. It must be said that when you are called three times to tell you that your mother is going to die, that you take the plane or the Thalys, at one point – and we are ashamed of it – we come to wonder when is she going to die, since she is going to end up dying? It’s all mixed up and nothing is clear. Especially since before performing euthanasia, your mother, from her hospital room, can see a plane in the sky and tell you: it’s beautiful ! This precisely happened to me and, at that moment, you wonder and you ask her if she really wants to die since she is still able to appreciate things in life. My mother simply replied: No. I am tired…” explained the singer.
Dave wanted to commit suicide in early 2022
Dave, revealing that his sister also had euthanasia a few years ago: “I saw my sister die in the same way. I saw her die with fear in her eyes, and it’s not pretty, especially since there’s nothing we can do. My sister was not euthanized, but helped. She also died of cancer.“ The singer reveals that he once thought about ending his life himself following his serious accident in January 2022: “After my accident, I thought about suicide. Before realizing that I had been wrongly treated for epilepsy, falsely diagnosed in the ambulance that took me to the emergency room. However, I discovered that the medication I was prescribed predisposes to suicide. Starting to think about suicide, because of this medication, I was considering euthanizing myself in some way.“.
“I am ready for euthanasia”
The fact remains that today, Dave is better, and can count on the support of his husband, with whom the decision to die together is made and seems immutable : “But Patrick and I agree on one point: if we ever have an illness that prevents us from living the way we want, we both won’t hesitate to leave. I’m not afraid of death. Intellectually, I am really ready for euthanasia. Physically, I don’t know. I’m already not comfortable when I take a plane that moves a little too much (laughs). But I’m going to be 80, and I’ve had a good life.” explains the former juror of France has an unbelievable talent.
