The number of Covid-19 cases is soaring within the Girondins de Bordeaux workforce on Tuesday. After announcing five cases in the morning, the tests of the day revealed new positive players, in fact threatening the holding of the meeting against Lille on Wednesday evening. According to our colleague from 20 minutes, Clement Carpentier, there would be nine Covid positive players, in total, as well as three members of the staff. As a reminder, a club can request the postponement of a match if it does not have 20 registered players, including a goalkeeper, to play a match. In other words, and if we reverse, 11 contaminated players are enough for the club to be within its rights. Among the positive players, it is Rémi Oudin, Dilane Bakwa, Sékou Mara, Stian Gregersen, Issouf Sissokho, but also Enock Kwateng who is the only one to have experienced symptoms.
The chain of contamination difficult to trace
According to information from France Bleu Gironde, the club would be in a kind of impasse faced with the test results. On the one hand, some players were carriers of the variant Delta, but others are carriers of the very contagious Omicron. In this he is much more complicated to trace the chain of contamination of the virus and identify where the Girondins de Bordeaux cluster started from. Thus, it seems difficult to point the finger at the Christmas meal – at the beginning of the week – as the sole responsible for this household.
The club has planned to test the workforce again this Wednesday morning in order to have the results around 2 p.m.. It is therefore at the beginning of the afternoon that the club will make the decision, or not, to request a postponement. This request must be formulated before 4 p.m., or at H-5 of the match, for it to be admissible by the Professional Football League.
