Journalist Denis Ferland has died

Quebec journalist Denis Ferland, who covered the political arena for around forty years in various media, died Monday at the age of 66, relatives and former work colleagues reported Tuesday. underlined his great mastery of current affairs, but also his “kindness” and his generosity.

“I want to pay tribute to an old friend, Denis Ferland, with whom I worked at CKAC, TVA and Radio-Canada. He left us yesterday after a long illness. Through his great culture, his intelligence and his kindness, he allowed the people around him to grow,” wrote journalist Alain Gravel on the social network “Rest in peace Denis. »

A long journey

Denis Ferland began his career as a journalist assigned to political news in 1978 at CKAC radio, where he worked for 10 years before joining the TVA Group in 1988, first as editor-in-chief, then as correspondent parliamentary, until 1994. The journalist then dedicated 21 years of his career to Radio-Canada, where he was, among other things, an assignee on Parliament Hill and a parliamentary correspondent. He retired from public media in 2015.

Mr. Ferland subsequently wrote dozens of columns for The duty focusing mainly on federal politics, between 2016 and 2017.

“Present for long hours in the office, you knew everything about politics and so many other things and you shared your knowledge generously,” wrote journalist Manon Globensky, who is a radio correspondent for Radio- Canada in Washington, in a brief tribute to Denis Ferland, who left “too young”.

During his long career, Denis Ferland has had the opportunity to cover numerous federal election campaigns as well as significant moments in Canadian and Quebec history, including the 1995 referendum.

“I have no words to describe this loss of a big brother who has always been an example for me to follow. Hi Denis! I know you’re waiting for me so we can resume our games of 500 and tennis in the afterlife. You will always stay with me,” wrote the brother of the deceased, Guy Ferland, on Facebook.

Denis Ferland had been fighting cancer for several years. He died Monday at the age of 66.
