The reception promises to be stormy at the San Siro stadium on Tuesday November 7. PSG travels to AC Milan, in this venue which is among the most legendary in Europe, for the 4th day of the group stages of the Champions League. This match especially marks the return of Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. Milanese fans have never forgiven him for his departure for PSG, free in the summer of 2021, after six years and 251 matches played under the colors of the Rossoneri (the Reds and Blacks).
The goalkeeper returned to the San Siro pitch on Monday for the warm-up, all smiles, as if nothing had happened. An energetic pat from his coach Luis Enrique on the back, and then Gianluigi Donnarumma joined his comrades. The calm before the storm that awaits Tuesday evening. “We saw what we call in Italian, an antipasto – an appetizer – in Paris,” says Enrico Curro, journalist at the Republic, the second best-selling daily newspaper in Italy. He refers to the insults and whistles against the player during the previous meeting between PSG and AC Milan at the end of October. The journalist warns that at San Siro, the bronca will be “multiplied by ten”. ‘Milan fans think Gianluigi Donnarumma betrayed’ the Italian club, he assures.
“Dollarumma” doesn’t seem concerned
This departure to Paris quickly earned Donnarumma the nickname “Dollarumma”, a contraction of his name and dollars. Moreover, on Tuesday evening the ultras plan to send wads of tickets bearing his image as a welcome, but that does not seem to destabilize the goalkeeper. “I didn’t see him worried during the trip”says his PSG teammate Milan Skriniar. “Gigio is one of the best goalkeepers in the world, very experienced. He will be focused on doing well with the team, that’s for sure.”
Gigio Donnarumma hopes to be decisive in delivering victory to Paris and at the same time plunging San Siro into cathedral silence. In the other match of the group, the Germans Borussia Dortmund host the English Newcastle the same evening.
