The Minister of Finance will provide a cautious economic update on Tuesday.
The context of difficult negotiations with the public sector and fear of recession forced Eric Girard to try to reduce expenses.
It must be said that inflation in Quebec, at 4.8%, is well above the Canadian average which is 3.8%.
Unlike last year, Quebecers will not receive a $500 anti-inflation check.
Despite everything, Prime Minister François Legaut has already mentioned that he wants to continue to help citizens.
Housing, adaptation to climate change and the fight against homelessness will be among Mr. Girard’s priorities in his economic update.
The CAQ must avoid falling into electoral measures, argued the first vice-president of public policies of the Business Council of Canada, Robert Asselin, in an interview with TVA Nouvelles.
“It would be a shame, because it would be short-term politics, electoral politics, poll politics. The problem with somewhat improvised aid like that to regain the favor of the electorate is that it is often poorly thought out, poorly targeted and afterwards, we do not really see the desired effect,” mentions Mr. Asselin .
“I hope that the rational and logical side of the Minister of Finance will prevail over the perhaps somewhat inopportune side of the Prime Minister,” he adds.
Minister Eric Girard’s economic update will be presented Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.
