Ukraine is experiencing its 620th day of war. Here are the three main news stories to remember from the day.
Image of the day: demonstration of Polish truck drivers
One of the most important recent images is that of Polish truck drivers blocking the border to Ukrainian trucks. The demonstrators denounce what they call unfair competition while Ukrainian companies have benefited from more flexible regulations since the start of the war. In total, there are between 40,000 and 50,000 trucks crossing this border each month.
Quote of the day: “You’ve made excellent progress, it’s impressive to see.”
The sentence to remember is that of Ursula Von der Leyen, visiting Kiev (Ukraine), while the country is a candidate for membership in the European Union. She explained to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky: “You’ve made excellent progress, it’s impressive to see.” She spoke of the reforms put in place in Ukraine to meet the conditions to reach the next stage, that of the opening of negotiations.
Today’s number: 24 minutes
This is the time estimated by Volodymyr Zelensky to explain to Donald Trump that he could not manage the war in Ukraine. Questioned by an American media outlet, the Ukrainian president responded indirectly to Donald Trump, who last summer explained that if re-elected, he could resolve the conflict between Ukraine and Russia in less than 24 hours.
