Justice: Éric Dupond-Moretti remains in place during his trial – (franceinfo)
From Monday November 6, the Minister of Justice will be tried for illegal taking of interests. He will nevertheless remain at the head of the ministry throughout the duration of the hearings, announced Élisabeth Borne.
A Minister of Justice on trial, and yet Éric Dupond-Moretti will keep the reins of the ministry during his trial. The government assures that the continuity of the State will be guaranteed during the six days of hearing “The minister will obviously have to have the necessary time to defend himself. The organization is in place for the ministry to continue to operate”, explained Élisabeth Borne. The Minister of Justice is on trial for illegal taking of interests. He is accused of having taken advantage of his position as minister to order administrative investigations against magistrates with whom he had had disagreements when he was a lawyer. He always defended himself.
The opposition denounces a conflict of interest
The Court of Justice of the Republic is made up of three professional judges and twelve parliamentarians, of all political persuasions. For the opposition, not only should the Minister of Justice have resigned, but the court before which he must appear raises questions and Olivier Faure, First Secretary of the Socialist Party, denounces a new “conflict of interest”. It is indeed the political future of Éric Dupond-Moretti, heavyweight of the macronie, which is at stake from Monday November 6.
