This is a first in the history of the Fifth Republic for a serving minister. Éric Dupond-Moretti will be tried on suspicion of illegal taking of interests from Monday November 6.

It is a Minister of Justice who is on trial. However, Éric Dupond-Moretti will keep the reins of the ministry during his trial. The government assures that the continuity of the State will be guaranteed during the six days of hearing. “The organization is in place so that the ministry continues to operate”specifies Elisabeth Borne, French Prime Minister.

He proclaims his innocence

The Minister of Justice will be tried on Monday, November 6 for illegal taking of interests. He is accused of having taken advantage of his position as minister to order administrative investigations against magistrates, of having settled his scores when he was a lawyer. He always defended himself. The Court of Justice of the Republic is made up of three professional judges and twelve parliamentarians from all political stripes. For the opposition, the Minister of Justice should have resigned.
