The NPO, which is piloting Montreal for the holidays, made this decision in light of the declaration of a state of health emergency by Mayor Valérie Plante on Tuesday morning. “It is unthinkable for us to go ahead with the evenings of December 31, which were to bring together a few thousand people. Canceling the New Year’s festivities is the only responsible thing to do in order to protect our customers and our teams, ”said Dimitri Soudas, chairman of the board of directors of Montréal en fête in a statement.

The management of the event is also suspending the animation of the three public squares set up in the city center and in Old Montreal. Émile Bilodeau’s show was to take place in Square Dorchester, that of Radio Radio in Square Victoria.
