Canadian 3 – Blues 6 | The Canadian loses a third consecutive match

(Saint-Louis) Brayden Schenn and Jordan Kyrou each had a goal and two assists on Saturday, helping the St. Louis Blues win 6-3 against the Montreal Canadiens.

Brandon Saad, Alexei Toropchenko, Robert Thomas and Kasperi Kapanen scored the other goals for the Blues. Kapanen’s was scored in an empty net.

Joel Hofer blocked 30 shots.

Juraj Slafkovasky, Brendan Gallagher and Nick Suzuki responded for the Canadian, who finished a three-game road trip with an 0-2-1 record. Samuel Montembeault made 29 saves.

The CH will reunite with its supporters Tuesday evening, against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

“We’re a young team, but we can’t just show up,” Suzuki said of Saturday’s game. We have a lot to refine for our next match. »

The score was close when Toropchenko and Schenn scored 3:03 apart early in the third period.

The first converted a breakaway and the second took advantage of a short pass from Kyrou, at the right mouth. Saad made it 3-1 with a shot into the top corner at 13:03 in the second period.

A minute and 45 seconds later, Gallagher responded with his fourth goal of the season. He collected a fourth point in two games.

Posted in the left circle, he grabbed a throw from Sean Monahan and hit the target with a sharp shot.

Thomas threaded the needle at 16:37 in the first period. He created space by escaping Mike Matheson before scoring with a wrist shot from the heart of the opposing zone. Thomas has scored a goal in each of his last three games.

Kyrou had scored at 1:24 before Slafkovsky responded at 4:01.

Early in the game, Schenn took a puck from behind the goal and directed it to the left mouth, where Kyrou scored his second goal this season.

The very first pick in the 2022 draft, Slafkovsky created the deadlock with his first goal of the campaign.

He hit the target from close range after a nice exchange with Alex Newhook, along the ramp.

“He did well, he played with intensity,” Suzuki said of Slafkovsky. He creates chances. His skills complement the way me and Cole play. »

“He brings them a big size,” added Canadian head coach Martin St. Louis. He skates well and is not easy to move around the net. »

Gallagher got the other pass on the sequence.

Hofer notably frustrated Cole Caufield at close range, in the 12e minute of the second third.

After Kapanen’s empty-net goal, Suzuki successfully deflected a shot from Caufield.

Christian Dvorak of the Habs played his first game this season, following a knee injury. Rafaël Harvey-Pinard was absent due to a lower body injury suffered Thursday in Arizona.

Monahan was trying to score in a fifth straight game.

The Blues are on a four-game homestand that also includes visits from the Jets and Coyotes on Tuesday and Thursday.

Friday, the team won 4-1 against the New Jersey Devils.
