Third period | Canadian 2 – Blues 5

The Montreal Canadiens face the Saint-Louis Blues on Saturday evening at the Enterprise Center in Saint-Louis.

Brandon Saad scored the goal that would be decisive in the middle of the second period, Saturday, while the St. Louis Blues finished the engagement with a 3-2 lead against the Montreal Canadiens.

Saad placed the disc in the top corner following a pass from Jordan Kyrou at 13:03.

One minute and 45 seconds later, Brendan Gallagher scored his fourth point in two games, the result of his fourth goal of the season. Posted in the left circle, he grabbed a throw from Sean Monahan and hit the target with a sharp shot.

Kyrou and Robert Thomas were the other scorers for the Blues. The Canadian’s other goal came from Juraj Slafkovsky in the first period.

Thomas threaded the needle at 16:37 in the first period. He created space by escaping Mike Matheson before scoring with a wrist shot from the heart of the opposing zone.

Thomas has scored a goal in each of his last three games.

Kyrou had scored at 1:24 before Slafkovsky responded at 4:01.

Early in the game, Brayden Schenn saw his shot blocked by Samuel Montembeault, but he took the puck behind the goal. He then directed it to the left goal, where Kyrou scored a second goal this season.

Schenn also saw one of his shots hit the post, around halfway through the second period.

The very first pick in the 2022 draft, Slafkovsky created the deadlock with his first goal of the campaign.

He hit the target with a shot from close range after a nice exchange with Alex Newhook, along the ramp. Gallagher got the other pass on the sequence.

Montembeault stopped 22 shots, while Joel Hofer blocked 20 pucks for the Blues. Hofer notably frustrated Cole Caufield at close range, in the 12e minute of the second third.

Christian Dvorak of the Habs is playing his first game this season, following a knee injury.

Rafael Harvey-Pinard is out with a lower-body injury suffered Thursday in Arizona. Michael Pezzetta is back in Martin St-Louis’ lineup, to the detriment of Jesse Ylonen.

Monahan attempts to score in fifth straight game.

The Canadian finishes a three-game trip, following losses in the first two games of the trip.

The Bleu-Blanc-Rouge will play their next game Tuesday evening at home, against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Blues are on a four-game homestand that also includes visits from the Jets and Coyotes on Tuesday and Thursday.

Friday, the team won 4-1 against the New Jersey Devils.
