Second period | Canadian 1 – Blues 2

The Montreal Canadiens face the Saint-Louis Blues on Saturday evening at the Enterprise Center in Saint-Louis.

Robert Thomas threaded the needle at 16:37 and the St. Louis Blues concluded the first third by leading 2-1 against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.

Thomas created space by escaping Mike Matheson and scored with a wrist shot from the heart of the opposing zone. Thomas has scored a goal in each of his last three games.

His teammate Jordan Kyrou scored at 1:24 before Juraj Slafkovsky responded at 4:01.

Early in the game, Brayden Schenn saw his shot blocked by Samuel Montembeault, but he took the puck behind the goal. He then directed it to the left goal, where Kyrou scored a second goal this season.

The very first pick in the 2022 draft, Slafkovsky created the deadlock with his first goal of the campaign.

He hit the target with a shot from close range after a nice exchange with Alex Newhook, along the ramp. Brendan Gallagher had the other assist on the stretch, collecting his third point in two games.

Montembeault stopped 12 shots, while Joel Hofer blocked eight pucks for the Blues.

Christian Dvorak of the Habs is playing his first game this season, following a knee injury. Rafael Harvey-Pinard is out with a lower-body injury suffered Thursday in Arizona.

Michael Pezzetta is back in Martin St-Louis’ lineup, to the detriment of Jesse Ylonen. Sean Monahan tries to score in a fifth consecutive game.

The Canadian finishes a three-game trip, following losses in the first two games of the trip.

The Bleu-Blanc-Rouge will play their next game Tuesday evening at home, against the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Blues are on a four-game homestand that also includes visits from the Jets and Coyotes on Tuesday and Thursday.

Friday, the team won 4-1 against the New Jersey Devils.
