Repeated storms will have a cost for insurance companies, which predict between 500 and 700 million euros in damage. All companies have agreed to extend the deadline for sending a claim declaration to 30 days.

Roofs torn off, facades collapsed… storm Ciaran caused more than 230,000 losses according to initial estimates. According to insurers, the bill will amount to several hundred thousand euros. Usually, it takes five days to file a claim, but this deadline was extended to 30 days due to the electrical problems. To be compensated, you must take preventive measures to avoid a worsening of the situation, then photograph the losses, then contact your insurer.

Compensation in a few weeks

All home insurance has a storm guarantee, but does not always take into account the annexes. “The contract may provide for rehousing costs. You can also try to contact your family to find accommodation. You have to group all your belongings together and close your house securely,” explains Jacques Perrissin-Pirasset, regional damage coordinator at SARETEC Assurances. The policyholders should be compensated within a few weeks. But the cost of future insurance will come.
