Of the 67 residents in the Breton nursing home in Pleine-Fougères, around forty presented significant gastric disorders during the night of Monday October 30 to Tuesday October 31.
Three residents of the Les Marais nursing home, in Pleine-Fougères (Ille-et-Vilaine), died of probable food poisoning, which occurred on Monday October 30, France Bleu Armorique learned this Saturday from the mayor of the town and the general director of the Saint-Joseph private clinic in Combourg, responsible for the nursing home, confirming information from Ouest-France.
During the night of Monday October 30 to Tuesday October 31, an abnormal number of people presented significant gastric disorders. Of the 67 residents of the nursing home, 40 were sick, one employee was also affected.
Foods being analyzed
The next afternoon, a crisis unit was set up by the clinic management, in conjunction with the Regional Health Agency (ARS). “At first we thought it was an epidemic of gastroenteritis“, explains Marie-Christine Hosquet, the general director of the Saint-Joseph private clinic in Combourg. The infectious cause was ultimately quickly ruled out.
Food poisoning is now the preferred avenue, specifies the director. Food analyzes are underway to understand the origin of this probable poisoning, reports France Bleu Armorique.
Meals from a service provider
The clinic, which owns the nursing home, does not produce the food served to residents. She uses an external service provider who uses the method of “cold connection“, method of food preservation used in collective catering.
The mayor of Pleine-Fougères, Louis Thébault, was only informed on Friday November 3 of this food poisoning in the nursing home. “I was very surprised. When we know the very harsh and strict rules put in place in this type of establishment, we are inevitably surprised“, says the chosen one.
Louis Thébault visited the establishment this Saturday, November 4, to reassure residents and their families.
